Do young people today make good use of their leisure time? Or do they spend too much time watching television and playing video games instead of taking part in more productive activities?
IELTS Essay - Part 2
Nowadays many people consider that teenagers are wasting their time with worthless activities such as watching television or playing computer games. In contrast to their opinion, youngsters have a different point of view on the subject. But is there actually any benefit from these activities or teenagers should spend their leisure time in a more efficient way?
On the one hand, people need to use their spare time in order to learn sometihing as long as they are young and their brains comprehend new information more easily. The more they improve themselves, the better their life as adults will be. There is a variety of activities which teenagers could take up with. For a intance sport is a good way to keep them fit and improve their health condition. What is more, there are plenty of social groups within the music industry or volunteer programs. It is a matter of choice.
On the other hand, our generation tends to be more solitary and to some extent virtual entertainment is preferable to our face to face reality. As a matter of fact, when teenagers get tired of carrying out the daily round and doing homeworks, they are longing for a way to relax and relieve the stress. For that reason it is understandable why they would chose to take a rest on the couch and watch TV or have fun playing video games.
Contrary to some peoples' convictions, these two activities can actually be of little avail. Research findings confirm that video games increase the level of concentration and the ability to observe many moving objects at once. Furthermore, as far as television is concerned, it is our choice what program we would watch. Against all odds there are few both educational and entertaining shows worth watching.
All things considered, youngsters should carefully prioritise the activities they do in their spare time in order to make a profit out of them. Moreover adults need to help them find a benefit from these activities instead of just seeing them as worthless.
