Tests and examinations
IELTS Essay Writing Task 2 - example
Through all our lives we are being assessed. In order to go to a school, university, to be hired for a job. We are given tests since kindergarten. According to the educational system, this way it can be estimated how much of the material a student has learned. But is this really the right approach to find what a kid is good at?
First of all, if the material is presented in an interesting and comprehensive way, there is a better chance for it to be understood. Any subject at school can be pleasant if it is put into practice. All tests that students do contain only a theoretical part, which usually appears to be confusing. As a matter of fact, failing an exam can discourage a kid from learning the subject. It can also make him or her feel insecure and under pressure.
What is more, teachers lose time assessing their students and having to prepare the tests. Instead, they could use this time in class to revise the lessons kids didn't understand and explain them more clearly. A good teacher A good teacher can assess their students during the lesson and they doesn't need a test for that.
In my view, exams are necessary as long as they are not given too often. Personally, I believe that, if student actually understood lessons, there wouldn't be any necessity of a test. Therefore, more attention should be paid to the material is presented.
