Animals testing essay - IELTS Writing Task 2 Sample 

Examine the arguments in favour of and against animal experiments, and come to a conclusion on this issue.

Before a new medical treatment or a product that concerns human health can be put on the market, it has to go through a set of tests to make sure it is safe. These tests unfortunately often involve animals. So, aren't our actions going against Nature and is there a more humane alternative to animal testing?

On the one hand, the surest way to see if a new medicine could cure a person without side effects is to test it on one. The closest living creatures that have similar features to ours are animals and that makes them suitable for experimentation. As a matter of fact, if such experiments weren't conducted, many people would be dead due to wrong product formula.

On the other hand, scientists use not only rats in their laboratories, but also animals of higher intelligence. They allow themselves to carry out experiments for any kind of purpose. Usually, animals are put in a cage with miserable conditions while waiting for their excruciating death. Many cosmetic companies and scientists with extravagant ideas use animal testing for their own purposes. But no matter what the goal is, such experiments will always appear inhumane.

This is the main reason why researchers are trying so hard to find an alternative with the development of software and electronics we are now closer to it than ever. Whether it is a human body simulator or some advanced computer algorithm, researchers are a step forward.

In conclusion, being the superior species on this planet doesn't mean that we are allowed to use all other living creatures for our own benefit. We should find another way to test our products, stop using animals for our next deadly idea and just let Nature run its course.
