UK and USA energy consumption charts
IELTS Writing Task 1 - Model Answer
The given graphical illustrations present data on the types of energy sources that were used in the UK and the USA in two different years.
As it can be seen, oil consumption increased slightly in both countries during the period 2000 to 2006. This resource was also the most used one in the USA with 37% in 2000 and 40% in 2006. The US, however, was most dependent on coal in 2000, but this tendency declined steeply over time. In both countries, the consumption of gas rose significantly from 20% to 38% in the UK and from 15% to 25% in the USA. By contrast, the consumption of nuclear power and other renewable sources followed a downward trend.
In conclusion, we can say that oil remained one of the most used energy sources during these six years for both countries. The consumption of coal decreased, while the consumption of gas increased and both changes were significant.
