The table makes a breakdown of the visits to the UK by overseas visitors. The given period is 23 years.
Until 1998 the number of foreigners arriving in UK had almost tripled. This applies both to people crossing the border for business affairs and leisure activities (such as holiday visits).
The greatest increase can be observed in the total number of people coming from Western Europe. At the start of the period they were 5.9 mln, while at the end they went up to 16.6 mln. Visitors from North America or other countries also had a significant rise. They accounted for 1.9 mln and 1.7 mln respectively in 1975, whereas towards the end of the investigated period they reached 4.6 mln total for both.
The overall trend is notable if we compare the information in the table. The UK has gained more popularity among residents from the rest of the world as a destination. They stayed there for a variety of reasons: business, holidays or seeing relatives.
