Essay example, suitable for FCE and CAE exams
There are several questions that first come to mind when we think about the future. What will it be like? Will it be better or not? Will man’s existence on this blessed earth continue or not?
In my opinion, life in the 21st century won’t differ much from the life we lead today. Material progress, scientific development, the exploration of space will undoubtedly go on and man will reach further in his knowledge about a great many things....
But is that really what man should do? Isn’t it better for all of us to take a dive into our inner selves and try to find what’s left of our goodness, charity, love, compassion and all that’s vital for mankind to survive? We must never forget that life is short and there’s no time for fussing and fighting, war and killing because all this will inevitably lead to our pitiful extinction. Man is just another kind of species in this blissful paradise, called earth. We must not delude ourselves that we are immortal and everlasting. We must respect Nature if we want to preserve this planet for the generations yet to come. We must be wise and search for the true meaning and essence of our existence. It is not in the material things that surround us but in our hearts, minds and souls. If we are clever enough to make this out we will be able to save life for at least another millennium.
Otherwise if we continue waging wars and spreading death around us we might be the last generation to enjoy the unparalleled beauty, magnificence and generosity of God’s green earth that has been mans shelter for millions of years.
