To the Editor,
I‘m writing in response to the article in yesterday’s
...... which concerns TV advertising. I completely disagree with all the points
that have been made in it and fell strongly against TV advertising.
First of all, I don’t see any point in TV advertising
because the advertised things are usually so expensive that many people can’t
afford them. So, this fact makes some people feel depressed and miserable.
Secondly, TV
advertising has a profound and sometimes negative effect on our children. When
they see a perfume advertised by Spice girls, for example, they invariably
start urging their mothers on on buying them exactly the same perfume, without
even thinking of the unreasonable price of the product.
Moreover, everything would be fine or at least satisfying if
the advertisements don’t lie to us about the quality of the products. It’s
really disappointing to buy perfume about which Eva Herzegovina says “”That’s
my secret” and see that it’s nothing special. It does not only smell unpleasant
but also does not last for a long time.
The other drawback of the advertisements is that they are
boring too long and dull. Some of them are made in such a way that it is
difficult for people to understand what they want to show. Furthermore, they
are usually shown in the middle of films which enrages some people because the
film is stopped just at the most interesting moment.
I completely understand that TV advertising is one of the
main sources of funds for television but sometimes the advertisements make some
people nervous. So, maybe it would be better if they were shown after the films
and the other shows. In this way the advertisements will be watched only by the
people who want to and are interested in them.
Sincerely yours,
...................
