IELTS Sample Task 1 Line Graph:

Visits to two new music sites on the web

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task. The graph below compares the number of visits to two new music sites on the web. Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information shown below. You should write at least 150 words.

The graph shows the number of people who visited two new Internet music sites within a period of 15 days – ‘Music Choice’ and ‘Pop Parade’. Overall, there has been fluctuation within both e a broad and narrow margin and some steady rises and falls during the time (Teacher’s Note – move the sentence at the end).

To begin with, on the first day ‘Music Choice’ only had 40,000 visitors whereas ‘Pop Parade’ managed to get 120,000 hits. During the next two days the visitors to both sites dipped slightly but ‘Music Choice’ reached a peak of 60,000 on Day 3. Then a new steep decline followed for the site on the fourth day and till the eleventh the enthusiasts who explored ‘Music Choice’ fluctuated slightly – they were just over 20,000 a day.

Similarly, ‘Pop Parade’ also suffered a steep fall for a few days but on Day 10, the hits rose from 40,000 to 120,000 and attendance reached the same level as on the first day. After that, there was a new peak of about 160,000, which was followed by another decline, the next day.

On Day 12, ‘Music Choice’ also reached a peak, with 120,000 visitors on screen, though it dipped slightly the following days.

At the end of the period, after the steep fall, there was a remarkable recovery for ‘Pop Parade’ and it rocketed to a maximum of 180,000 hits the last two days of the survey, while the popularity of ‘Music Choice’ diminished and the last day it had 80,000 visitors again.
